Meet Me
From the third grade on, I was a closet writer. I locked myself in my bedroom and wrote. No one knew. Then a wonderful thing happened. My high school English teacher sent me to a literary rally as a representative of our school and she generously put my writings on her bulletin board.
What a difference a teacher can make! Perhaps that is why I spent 33 years teaching English, language arts and creative writing in Atlanta. However, the lessons I learned from my students were more than anything I ever imparted to them. Isn’t that always the way it happens with teachers and students? In 1992, I was elected Teacher of the Year
due to the outstanding writing of my students at Flat Shoals Elementary.
Now retired to Maine, I have more time to devote to writing magazine and newspaper articles- which were a small sideline to teaching in Atlanta. From 1967-2009, I have had more than 400 magazine articles published.
My publication credits include: Woman’s World, Complete Woman, Atlanta Woman, Atlanta Singles, Atlanta Magazine, Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Neighbor Newspaper in Atlanta, Creative Loafing in Atlanta, and here in Maine: Port City Life Magazine, Times Record Newspaper, Inner Tapestry and the Coastal Journal. Some of these articles have been reprinted in www.Ezinearticles.com and www.DivineCaroline.com.
My passion is research--so much so that most topics I choose invariably involve extensive research. I also contributed a chapter to the book, Loss, Grief, and Healing, in 2007.
I hold a Master's Degree in Reading Education for grades 1-12 and frequently teach adult education classes using Writing Alone and with Others by Pat Schneider (The Amherst Artists & Writers Method). I'm a 2006 graduate of the leadership training program of Amherst Artists & Writers.
